HERALD SUN TOUR: FROOME SLIPS BACK TO SIXTH

The Herald Sun Tour has been filled with a lot of dramas, wins and fallouts. One example was Chris Froome who this week made his season debut only to get off to an underwhelming beginning into the event.

However, on a drama-filled stage one of racing at the Herald Sun Tour, Luke Rowe, Froome’s Team Sky team-mate left on a big impression in Australia as he joined a 10-man breakaway that went on to dominate the race proceedings.

At the end of it all, the 26-year old Welshman, Rowe outpaced and held off all rivals to win the stage race.

Froome, the defending champion fell off the pace in the stage two of the tour, slipping back to sixth, with one minute and 12 seconds behind the lead.

The Briton has thus become the first man in more than a decade defending his title in the race. He also hopes to become the first rider since over a decade ago to win back to back titles Continue reading →

MATIN ABANDONS RECORD-SETTING ATTEMPT

Guy Matin has put an end to his intended record setting attempt due to an injury.

The athlete who had been on an adventure to set a new record of cycling the entire length of Britain’s coastline has suffered an Achilles tendon injury, forcing him to abandon his quest.

Martin has had high hope of beating the current record, which Nick Sanders had set in 1984 by attempting to ride the 4,802-mile coastal route in 20 days, a feat that took Sanders 22 days to complete. Unfortunate he pulled his Achilles tendon earlier on in his attempt and had to cancel.

The multitalented athlete who is a motorcycle racer as well as a TV presenter had managed to make a good start on Sunday, December 5 and he had covered the 800 miles distance from Grimsby to John O’Groats in just four days.

“Well, it’s not gone quite to plan,” Martin wrote on his blog on Wednesday. Continue reading →
